Static noise radio stations

So i noticed after some time that the radio doesnt work the only thing i get is static sound. After a shutdown of 10 seconds and powering back up the radio starts working again and then after a couple of days the same issue.
I can provide more information if needed.
Thank you.

A few initial questions for you:

  1. What radio station are you trying with? Is it one station, all stations?

  2. What version of the software are you running?

hello
I tried multiple online radio stations all of them static noise even tried on computer and there i got sound.
So what i did i updated to the latest version Version: 0.3.0-beta.3 and now it works for a couple of days but the groups and zones are all over the place i cannot get it to work stable.

When you say “tried on computer” do you mean you tried the amplipi UI on both your phone and computer or do you mean that you tried listening to the station on amplipi and through the radio stations’ web player and had similar results?
If it’s the second one, it sounds like issues with the station(s)

Secondarily, can you define what you mean by “the groups and zones are all over the place” with further detail?

Seeing as you’re running a beta, I can say we intend to have a full release in a short timespan (date undecided as of yet) that would ideally fix any issues you have if it’s purely software related as well, but I’d still like to troubleshoot this with you in the meantime rather than just say “Wait it out for now”

What I mean by that is that those same url played in VLC on a computer worked without problem on the other hand at the same time on the amplipi was only static noise (here small remark is that even though there radios were giving station noise the announcement were normal).

Well I did not stayed long on beta I reverted to latest stable. So for example volume sliders did not work at all . Then changing radios stations made the group lost the zones attached to it all or even just one. Or I choose a radio station for a group but it appeared in another group and that is where I started to revert back.

Overall I have the impression that the amplipi after a couple of days it goes crazy and only a restart helps.
The problem is my setup the radio is played 24/7 on 3 different groups and it’s only paused not stopped.
If you need more details let me know.
Thank you.

Since my last message we have actually looked into this internally, we have had some experience with this and we believe we’ve already solved it in two PRs that will be in the upcoming release

For right now, I have two suggestions:

  1. Reimage your Pi. This is internally considered a “nuclear option”, and you will have to reconfigure your Amplipi and any expander units you may have along with zones, groups, and streams since your unit will be reset to factory default, and as such I recommend recording your settings as best as possible before doing so.

  2. Await that release in the near future

If neither option solves things for you, the final solution we have access to is to suggest reaching out to us further either by emailing us at support@micro-nova.com or using the contact form on our website and we’ll begin the warranty repair process for you.

Just following up here to note that AmpliPi 0.3.0 has been released.

thank I tried it still the same weird behavious with the grouping zones and volumes so reverted back to last stable.
my setup is pretty basic 3 groups with different zones playing constatly the same source an internet radio then some notifications to all zones from time to time. the only difference is that i have a script in openhab that keeps sending from time to time wich zone goes with wich source and also mutes and unmutes based on presence. On stable works fine only that after a while the sound its not coming just static out from the internet radio and a full shutdown solves it for a while but then after the upgrate to latest release and reverting back the issues did not come back ? Anyways i hope i made myself clear. thanks again

Do you happen to have any logs from that failure condition?

We can also try to reproduce it ourselves if you provide an example station that has this issue.

It’s not a single radio it’s 3 different url that have nothing to do with each other.
Oh and an interesting one is that after the upgrade all my configuration got lost after a sudden power failure.
I see that it’s difficult to know what I am talking about but next time I will download the logs and post them here. Thank you.
