Volume normalizes after couple sec, reverting changes

I set specific volume for zones, see screenshot 1 and than after ~5sec the volume “normalizes” and all sliders meets on the same value (as a new user I cannot upload second screenshot). Is this normal? Feels really annoying

Hey CtrlAltMusic!

What you’re experiencing here is likely a side effect of us changing how the volume bars work lately while your phone is storing an old version of the frontend code. You can solve this by entering your device settings and clearing your cache, just note that any tabs you have open will potentially be wiped out when you do this so save any valued tabs as bookmarks just in case.

If this doesn’t help, I’d suggest verifying that you’re on version 0.4.10; if the issue persists while on 0.4.10 I’d further suggest to open a support tunnel from the updater and send us the details at support@micro-nova.com
If the support tunnel doesn’t open, update to 0.4.10 even if you’re already on it by going to Settings → Admin Panel → Other Updates and selecting 0.4.10 from the top of the list and then trying again.

You can solve this by entering your device settings and clearing your cache

Do you mean Settings → Admin Panel or Settings → Configuration or what exactly? Do I clear the cache on he app or on the box? I checked and I am on the version 0.4.10.

I tried to open support tunnel but it fails. The email generated is sent to you.

there is no “Other Updates” there is Other releases and Custom Update, which one is it?

I have to say this was not a pleasant experience so far.

I’m running the update from 0.4.10 to 0.4.10 so let’s see if it helps..

Apologies for the imprecise instructions, here’s my corrections:

  1. Your mobile device, or the browser of the computer you use to access AmpliPi. This issue is (potentially) related to your browser cache, not the AmpliPi itself
  2. “Other Releases” is the one, it should have a dropdown where you can select 0.4.10 to reinstall and get the latest support tunnel patch that should allow you to create a tunnel properly

After re-installing Amplipi thru Settings → Admin Panel → Other Releases and applying same release as before I was able to create support tunnel. I sent the details via generated email. I also reported issues with Spotify. Please check that as well. I can confirm the volume reverting is still an Issue.

Also now I noticed the volume reverting only happens when I have 2 groups and several zones selected. If I have selected only zones from same group the volume stays what I set in the app (no change). If I add zones which are also part of another group. I was able to capture it in the screen recording.

the issue manifests at 0:38 for a first time. its hard to tell what is “user” action. But when all volume bars “align” that is happening automatically without any user input

Hope that helps

I’m going to look into this further on our end before saying anything with confidence, but I’ve made an issue that’s potentially related.
There are three classes of volume sliders (Zone, Group, and Stream/Source) and they all have their own slightly different functionality:

  • Zone: Simple, just controls its own volume. These are the only “real” volume bars in that they’re the only ones that have their own value stored instead of calculated.
  • Group: Control the volumes of zones within the group by simply setting those zones to the same vol% as the group (this is what you’re potentially running into). This is known as authoritative volume setting.
  • Source/Stream: Control the volumes of all connected zones by checking what value it was at before and after a change and then adding or subtracting the difference to all connected zones, this is known as relativistic volume setting

My guess is that something is improperly firing off the Group volume change logic and forcefully setting all the sources within the group to a certain value.

If you wanted to help debug this while I try to replicate it, going to amplipi.local on a desktop browser and:

  • opening the developer tools (Accessed by hitting F12 on your keyboard, or right clicking the page and selecting “Inspect element”)
  • selecting the Network tab on said tools to watch the API requests
  • entering mobile mode (ctrl+shift+M on chrome)

Then screen record (can be achieved with the snipping tool, accessed by hitting Windows+S) while doing the same things to see if the issue persists. If it does, it should show whether it’s the website or server causing the issue, if it doesn’t it could be the mobile app specifically. Either way I’ll see it, but also again this is optional effort on your part as I will be cloning your setup over a few days to rigorously test this case.

I recently added this wall panel and before that it was not happening. I can unplug it and see if it helps. However I will be home in 2 weeks. I noticed whenever I’m changing volume on the wall panel its one singular slider for all and it overwrites per-zone volume, as it sets it across the board to everything.
