What’s everybody using to mount their unit(s)? I’m looking on Amazon for server cabinets and it’s a bit overwhelming with choices. Wall-mount seems best at first glance, but I can see myself needing to access the back for cabling purposes. Especially since the data cable for the expanders would prevent moving one unit independent of the other(s).
For testing 6 units together (1 main, 5 expanders) we use the StarTech 12U Heavy Duty Open Frame Network Rack https://amazon.com/dp/B01LZV9IK1
@Lohrer uses this for his at home setup as well and is pretty happy with it.
I had a situation where wall-mount was hard and shelf-mount was easy. And at MicroNova being able to pick up the (heavy) rack and move it for testing is convenient. So in both cases the rack @linknum23 shared is a cheap option that works well.
I’ve seen wall-mount options too and those always look great! They usually seem to leave plenty of room in the back to access cables, but I don’t know any specific models so I can’t help much there. What I can say is that if you only have 1 or 2 expanders, you can use longer cables between units if it is helpful for placement. Audio signals are passing over that wire so of course keeping them shorter is better, but when we’re testing expansion units at MicroNova we often use a roughly 1ft-long cable to connect a single expander. The cables are 16-pin ribbon cables with IDC connectors, like these https://www.amazon.com/Antrader-16-Pin-Connector-Ribbon-Sockets/dp/B07FZWH9S6
Tynman,
I am probably going to go with Hammond excellent quality and design, many sizes, StarTech is okay too.
Server racks usually have #12-24 screws and audio normal have always been
#10-32 screws, it may not matter but I prefer 10-32s.
I have installed it into my central networking rack (52u EMC server chassis), with the cabling run in a bundle.
