Streamers in different locations

I have a few speaker zones wired to two different places in my house. I plan to use mainly Spotify. I have ethernet in both locations and each location has amplifiers. How should I use AmpliPro?

If buy 2 AmpliPro streamers, will they both show up in the app seamlessly? I wouldn’t want to have to switch between 2 apps, one for each streamer.

Thanks for your help!

Hey Nate,

My colleague Michael already responded to your support ticket through www.amplipro.com, but I wanted to make sure our answer was publicly accessible as well as add more context since you made a discourse post as well. As Michael said:

Hi Nate,

I’m excited to hear you’re considering buying an AmpliPro Streamer unit.
To answer your question: if you have two or more streamer units, you only need to use one app. However, you will need to toggle between units within the app to control them. Unfortunately It’s also not possible to natively sync audio between the two units. I’ve included a screenshot of what it looks like here at the office when I open the app.

To avoid needing to toggle between units, the AmpliPro also supports LMS mode. LMS, or Lyrion Music Server (formerly Logitech Media Server), takes a little bit more effort to set up, but it’s still relatively simple. With LMS mode, you can control your music across multiple units simultaneously. If you want more details about how LMS mode works, let me know and I will reply with a more thorough explanation.

I hope this was the answer you were looking for, and feel free to message us with any other questions.

Thank you,

The further context that I wanted to add is that this modal is only accessible on iOS, if you wish to access multiple devices on Andorid you will have to direct connect via IP, either through the app or through your web browser. Personally I would suggest using web browser as that would allow you to set them as favorites so you could swap between them with a few taps rather than needing to type out the whole IP every time

Thanks Steven! I’m glad you posted here, as I didn’t get a response from Michael via email. I use Gmail for my provider, so no emails should be getting blocked on my end. It’s not in my spam folder. You might want to check your email setup. Gmail and others recently started requiring SPF, DKIM, and DMARC.

Sync would be nice, but it’s not a deal breaker. Toggling between units is unwieldy, whether via a dialog or browser. I don’t use iOS.

Since I normally use Spotify, is it possible to use the Spotify app to both initiate playback on a specific zone and control it? If I can choose any of my zones on either streamer for playback in the Spotify app, that would be perfect.

If that is possible, can multiple zones show up in Spotify? That is how Google Home works, you set up a zone that plays sync’ed on multiple zones.

Additionally I have keypads on the wall. Pressing a button will start (or stop) Spotify playback of a specific playlist for the zone the keypad is in. I’m a programmer and I’ve integrated with the Spotify API, but I don’t think it lets me start playback for a specific device (zone). Probably the keypad button will use the streamer API to start Spotify playback, then once it’s playing I assume the Spotify app can control playback.

I still have the use case to initiate playback solely from Spotify, without using the keypad. Hopefully you can confirm that will work! In the meantime I’ll read up on Lyrion. Additional setup is no problem.

I have one other question: is it possible to do ducking? I’d like to have an audio input for beeps or announcements. When that input has audio, the currently playing source will be reduced in volume. That is somewhat tricky to do other ways, but it would be an amazing feature for the streamer.

I’m a coder with an electronics hobby and I was considering building my own streamer up until I found yours. It looks really good, kudos!

Moved this offline to finish the conservation. The TLDR is we need to do a better job explaining what LMS mode is and what can be accomplished with it. To future readers: watch our blog for a post with more detailed instructions on LMS.

@jason I don’t see the point in deleting the messages in this discussion. They were valuable and answered a lot of questions. Future users (or future me) could refer to them and save you from having to answer the same questions repeatedly. The entire benefit of doing customer support publicly is lost when discussions are culled like this.

My last post had one more question that I hope can still be answered. If it is to be answered via email, I worry that I won’t receive it. Steven mentioned above that Michael responded to me privately (presumably via email), but I never got an email.

Hey Nate,
Sorry about the confusion. We had IMed back and forth about this. I wanted to come back here and post for the rest of the folks what ended up happening. I can post a copy of the IM chats here as well if you think that would be helpful?
Jason

I don’t know, up to you! My streamers should arrive soon and then I can probably answer my question by playing with them.

Ahhh I see my confusion now: some messages were DMs and some were in this thread. Both have similar titles, so I didn’t realize they were DMs. Then when I came back to the thread, it seemed that half the messages were gone.

At any rate, I received the streamers and I made a thread about my initial experience.
