We’ve just released AmpliPi 0.4.4! See here for full patch notes, here’s the highlights:
- Added an early version of an external media player
- Polished the frontend, especially on mobile
- Improved the update process to preserve user settings
External Media Player
The external media player allows you to insert a USB storage device into your main unit and stream any of these filetypes. First, you create the stream like any other and then connect it to the zone(s) of your choice. When you select the connected stream, you’ll get the same “Browser” tab at the bottom of your screen as you do with Pandora, this will allow you to browse your filesystem to select what to play:
Please note that this is the minimum viable product of this feature and we intend to build it out more, some things we could add include a replay button and album art reading, go to the threads on those issues to let us know if we should or create an issue of your own to let us know what else you might like to see improved about that stream.
On 0.4.2
We apologize for the issues with the previous 0.4.2 release, and would like to highlight that we’ve improved our processes for testing and releasing; that’s actually why we’re going from 0.4.2 to 0.4.4, we had an 0.4.3 release that had bugs that we deemed unacceptable for a full release during our new QA process and had to skip a version due to the tag already existing on GitHub. Further, we’re currently working with a few of our senior engineers to get their homes set up for whole home audio so we can seed them with units of their own, this should help ensure that we only bring you the best quality updates in the future.
Wrapping Up
Let us know what you think, and as always hit up our GitHub issues list and project board to tell us about issues you find and what you think we should prioritize, it helps the project a lot to know what our users value!
