I have a Sonos Port connected to RCA4 on the Amplipi as this allows me to play music in sync across my Sonos and Amplipi zones for the full house party experience.
I’ve been playing with the Sonos Port Line-Out level settings as I’ve been getting issues with poor quality/distortion on the Amplipi zones playing through the Port.
If I set the level to pass-through the distortion comes back, if I set to variable and keep the volume level on the port below about 85% the distortion disappears.
Has anyone else connected a Sonos Port to the Amplipi?
If so how are you connected (RCA/digital/3.5mm jack etc.) and how have you configured the line-out level settings in the Sonos app?
The older AmpliPi hardware (preamp boards prior to Rev 4.A) had a max input level of 1 Vrms. The newer hardware (preamp boards Rev 4.A and newer) have a max input level of 2 Vrms. As your experiencing, if you input a line level signal over the max input level, the signal will clip and you will get distortion.
In theory, consumer line level should be well below 1 Vrms, but it seems most devices output higher line level outputs, many closer to ‘pro’ line levels of 1.25ish Vrms.
